travels + adventures ~ bakersfield

I took a drive up to Bakersfield this weekend to meet an etsy friend and check out her specimens. I have never stopped in Bakersfield - so it was exciting to stop at a place I have passed by so often on other journeys in my life. Let me tell you - specimens galore she did have! I have been looking for bird bones forever to cast - (I have been dreaming about this day for years...charm bracelets anyone?) She and her husband stumbled upon a gold mine of skulls & bones, this is just tiny portion of what they had! I could have looked at each one for hours...... The most amazing part was they got them from a elder woman who had personally collected them and categorized them herself in a little notebook throughout her life! I love obsessive people & personal histories - so these bones couldn't have come to me in a better way. I am so glad I took the trek up there enjoying the blossoms on the almond trees along the way. I will make sure to post often what I do with these bad boys in the metal studio .....
