Bone Specimens

Total Etsy impulse by from the other day. Aren't they just the cutest things you have ever seen!? They are even more itsy bitsy than I had imagined! The little jaw bone blows my mind. I put the tiny vertebrae next to my large horse vertebrae to show just how tiny they are. So many fun things to be made with these babies!

I thought the packaging was pretty exquisite too! They came in a little box wrapped in white tulle. You can get your own itsy bitsy bones here.

Risd Nature Lab on ETSY

I seriously love the RISD nature lab!!! Best place ever for EVERYTHING creepy, crawly and taxidermy. The nature lab had such a huge impact on me (as you can probably tell from my jewelry). Inside the nature lab is where I met dried fish and the love affair began! As part of an assignment freshman year I sketched little dried angel fish from the Nature Lab and was forever mesmerized by their beauty. I also had taken to experimenting with resin freshman year. I tried putting my goldfish that died in resin, only it was frozen and boiled (and the dorms had to be cleared out from the toxic fumes..oops!) I had so much to learn!

Anyways, Check out this great video ETSY did on the Rhode Island School of Design nature lab.

Experimentation: Arrival of the Air plants!

Meet my newest obsession, tillandsia or more commonly known as, air plants! Air plants and Venus Fly Traps are two of the coolest plants around. I have come to accept from years of attempts I cannot keep a Venus Fly Trap alive. So I was excited when I read, "Air plants are truly are a perfect gift for plant lovers and for people who can't grow anything." That's me! So, I went and ordered a large box of air plants. And have been experimenting with ways to display these curious little plants.

air plant in an enameled black abalone shell I am planning on hanging it up & 4 air plants in a odd little glass sculpture I got at an estate sale.
